Case study: A Crystallum Reticulatum which grows

This could be the case if we think that nature is developing reticulated artifacts through the use of repletion these can be found in algae.

The heart of every design is the structure of it.

Through structure the shape of any object is defined and ultimately defines the outcome of the design. The design which we experience as individuals influences the way we move, plan and interact the society from urban planning to product design.

Nature teaches us that the circle is the perfect form which works well when it is considered in micro level such as molecules. The performance of inter-connection in nature, teaches us that the perfect building form is the honeycomb.
We can make our structures flexible, which can allow them to change from circle to honeycomb to accommodate rapid transition which can increase structural support in design.

Bio-morphed Environment
In this case study the ultimate goal is to provide a framework for structures that can be made flexible. The study interrogates the use of honeycomb structure which can make transitions from one form to the other, yet to maintain their structural support. With current technologies this can be achieved only at micron scale through cellular engineering and the aim of this case study is to maximize possibilities through defining a new strategy in building structures that can be bio-morphed to accommodate in any environment.

Biomimetics through the hydrodictyaceae algae
Honeycomb expresses beauty through its repetition of shape which engages the creation of stacks, while the water net express its beauty through connecting with other parts.
Water net has a system of 120 degrees interconnecting 3 branches and which expands through a nano tube.
In the case of Pediastrum cells, the structure ends abruptly and forms little flagella like arms. To suggest a new structure it is essential to use the flagella like arms as joints.
These will enable designs to be disrupted into 3 pillars: length, force and dimension. If we get these pillars right, the quality of design can be improved through minimizing loss, weight and ultimately the volume of the structure.

We transit change to the creation of structures that are synthetic, yet, they follow simple rules in nature, which can connect seamlessly with other designs in its environment, using simple and effective connection points as in nature.

Strength vs Beauty
The finest and yet the strongest, crystal is the structure which makes strong materials.
With this in mind we have to create bonds that make the structure solid.
Also, it has to provide a framework that can multiply organic and can shape-shift its form while its structure design remains constraint and it connects realistically with form to define integrity.

To generate a structure which is feasible, yet it provides maximum structural support, the material should embed design catalysts that change the state of the structure. A change which reflects the shape of material through which the design of the structure is expressed. If the structure accepts the design catalyst, then the material becomes economic without affecting its bonds, thus maintaining a strong structural support.
Now, the catalysts to change the state of materials depend upon the composition of materials alone, but when it comes to building bigger shapes that expand and contract significantly without too much change in the state of material is the ultimate state of design which we currently experience.

Morphing shapes through inter-connection
To generate design through a structure which changes its shape as it is being multiplied, yet it assembles beautifully in stacks vertically and horizontally. A design which can be altered, maintained and replaced at the fraction of the cost, of any conventional building.

Crystal dependent designs
The structure created was named ”Crystallum reticulatum” because the design of the structure has the shape of a crystal, the base of it is a honeycomb as in the graphene structure. The design can also be multiplied three dimensionally and has been designed to be scaled and to accommodate designs in bricks, wood and to be used as a structure for homes which can benefit property developers and other designers help them save cost to their clients.
